Looks like my first blog is a defence to my many colleagues within the company.
What is the McJob? depends on who you are listening to, but the general consensus is that it is a menial, low paid job.
The wikipedia has this to say:
McJob is slang for a low-pay, low-prestige job that requires few skills and offers very little chance of intracompany advancementFairly damning then. Now i'm no defender of big companies (they have their own PR firms) but I have to say that it's unfair to call it that. Not because it can damage the firms reputation (I already said they can pay for their own PR firm,) but because it belittles the work of my colleagues, many of which are talented people and I have an enormous amount of respect for.
Low pay I'll agree with, and that's the first thing that people mention. But then again, you the consumer more or less dictate how much the "crew" (McD term for staff) get paid.
How? Simple, you don't want to pay any more for your food, the company can't afford to pay anymore for the staff.
How can I be sure? I work on the Profit and Loss for a restaurant each month, and it's no lie!
Time to dispell another myth. We don't just take anyone on either. At every restaurant that I've worked in more applications are binned because they are numpties than we are willing to interview! Those then get a job working in customer services for utilities firms. A few slip through the net but nobody's perfect!
There is a good chance to progress if the lights are on upstairs, many of the best managers started as "burger flippers."
Like I said, I'm no PR guru or trying to stand up for the company, I'm just siding with my crew who deserve a little more.
